The UCC is committed to helping Notre Dame students who are in crisis, and counselors are available to speak with students 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

During normal office hours, students should stop by the third floor of Saint Liam Hall or call the UCC at 574-631-7336 and ask to speak to a counselor. Please indicate that this is a crisis.

After office hours, when the UCC is closed, students should call the UCC at 574-631-7336 and follow the voicemail instructions to reach the on-call counselor. This after-hours counseling service is staffed by licensed counselors who can provide immediate assistance by phone regarding a variety of issues that require on-the-spot help, crisis intervention, or consultation. These counselors can also help facilitate a transition to UCC services as needed.

Crisis services are often necessary for students experiencing any of the following:

  • Suicidal intent
  • Acute risk of combative behavior
  • Loss of emotional control
  • Response to a traumatic event
  • Sexual violence
  • Death of a loved one
  • Perceptual disturbances such as hearing voices or gross impairment in functioning

Crisis Services are available 24/7 except when the University is closed for the Christmas holiday. While exact timing varies by year, the University is typically closed between December 22 and January 4. Students in need of support during this time should contact TimelyCare.
