Off-campus Referrals
At times, students may want or need mental health services that are beyond the scope of the services provided at the UCC. Students who require specialized or more intensive treatment are sometimes best served by providers in the local community.
Counselors can both discuss and potentially provide referrals to off-campus treatment providers during a Drop-in appointment.
Additionally, students can use Thriving Campus to identify relevant off-campus providers in the local area by topic, types of insurance accepted, and therapist identities. The platform also includes a “Help” feature that explains insurance and billing and includes tips for finding a therapist.
Students enrolled in the University-sponsored student health insurance plan are required to submit a referral from either the UCC or UHS for off-campus therapy, which can be obtained during a Drop-in appointment.
Those who would rather not meet with a UCC counselor can contact UHS at 574-631-7497 to schedule an appointment with a Behavioral Health Clinical Case Manager to discuss a referral. Students interested in renewing an existing University-sponsored student health insurance referral for a new academic year can call the UCC at 574-631-7336.
Please note that all students who seek off-campus treatment are responsible for the costs associated with their services.
