Sara Bea Accessibility Program
The Sara Bea Accessibility Program is responsible for engaging with students with both visible and invisible disabilities to provide reasonable accommodations and ensure every student has equal access to the University’s facilities and programs.
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the University’s student handbook, du Lac, Sara Bea works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and key campus partners to remove barriers that would otherwise impede full access to the academic, spiritual, and recreational opportunities provided by the University to qualified students with disabilities.
Importantly, accommodations do not lower course standards or alter essential degree requirements but instead give students the opportunity to demonstrate their academic abilities.

The Sara Bea Accessibility Program is named in honor of Sara Lynn Bea, a young women whose life inspired others to transcend the challenges laid before them. Sara was born and lived her life in Rochester, Minnesota. Living with multiple disabilities, Sara touched the lives of many through her quick smile and engaging eyes during her many years of working at the area athletic club. Sara died peacefully in her sleep on June 18, 2003. There is a “Dancing with Angels” celebration held in her honor every year for hundreds of people with disabilities in the Rochester area.
