The University Counseling Center (UCC) provides a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space where students can feel free to explore a wide variety of issues and concerns.

Through crisis intervention, Drop-in services, individual and group counseling, 24/7 phone consultations, psychiatric care, and referrals to off-campus treatment providers, the UCC helps students address the difficulties they may encounter and empower them to make the most of their time at Notre Dame.

All counseling services are confidential and free of charge to degree-seeking students currently enrolled at the University of Notre Dame and to international non-degree seeking students. The UCC is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary during University holidays and breaks.

Students in crisis can either come directly to the UCC during normal business hours or call 574-631-7336. After hours, students should call 574-631-7336 and follow the voicemail instructions to connect with licensed counselors who are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Accessing Services

All students access the UCC for the first time through the UCC Drop-in system during scheduled Drop-in hours. Drop-in appointments enable students to address a specific concern or to determine which UCC services might best address their needs.

Confidentiality

UCC staff are ethically and legally required to uphold standards of confidentiality, and any information shared by a student in counseling—including concerns related to substance use and mental health—is protected. Learn more about confidentiality here.

Your Feedback is Essential

As an accredited counseling center through the International Accreditation of Counseling Services, the UCC strives to provide high-quality mental health care and resources to support the education and development of all Notre Dame students. Feedback is a useful tool to evaluate and improve services. Students are invited to share their experiences with the UCC, their thoughts about available services and those they would like to see implemented in the future.

Staff

The UCC is staffed by a variety of mental health professionals committed to responding to the evolving needs of Notre Dame students. Staff members include psychologists, sports psychologists, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, mental health counselors, psychiatrists, a registered dietician, and mental health professionals in-training whose expertise has been honed by research, emerging interventions, and the experiences of the students they serve.
