Red Folder Initiative
Student Health and Wellness manages the Red Folder Initiative, which is designed to help faculty, staff, administrators, and others who interact with students recognize, assess, and support students in distress.
The Red Folder provides indicators of students in distress and response protocols based on the type of distress students may be experiencing. The Red Folder also shares advice for connecting with a student and making referrals to additional on- and off-campus resources.

Guidance used in the Red Folder Initiative is based on the Step Care Model, which assesses a person’s health and wellness and encourages solution-focused resources and treatment options. The five steps included in the model vary from basic self-care requirements to emergency situations that call for immediate help.
By using this model as a guide, the Red Folder helps concerned others to both assess a student’s health and wellness and provide solution-focused resources and treatment options.
